Firdausi Qadri
 | Bio: | Dr. Firdausi Qadri is the Director, Centre for Vaccine Sciences at the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (icddr,b). Her activities involve work on infectious diseases and vaccines over the last 25 years. Her work is carried out in collaboration with international and national organizations in related topics. She obtained her PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Liverpool in 1980. Dr. Firdausi Qadri joined icddr,b in 1988 and is currently Director, Centre for Vaccine Sciences of icddr,b. She also has inspired many young scientists through her teaching. Her penchant for teaching can be seen in her lab, where students from both local and international universities, join her team as interns. She and her team's significant contribution to international scientific research on diarrhoeal diseases; particularly in the case of the bacterial diarrhoea such as Vibrio cholerae, ETEC, Helicobacter pylori and Salmonella Typhi, all of which are very common in children but also adults in developing countries. She is currently carrying out a large feasibility study for introducing cholera vaccine in high risk people in the country. She has published over 219 papers in peer reviewed journals. Her passion in life is to improve biomedical sciences in Bangladesh through development of researchers and scientists and of institutions.
